New Burning Regulations

New DEC Burning Regulations were effective October 14, 2009. Burning trash is now prohibited statewide in all cases. This time of the year you are cleaning yards and raking leaves. Please do not burn your leaves…compost them. For more detailed information concerning the new laws log onto the DEC website.Department of Environmental Conservation

Election Results

Congratulations to the winners in Tuesday’s Election.  Rene’ Merrihew remains as Town Supervisor. Jean Frisbee and Charles Leoni were elected to the Town Board and Judge Robert Butler was re-elected to another term on the bench.

VFW Looking for Members

The local VFW James Duane Post 2303 is looking for members. If you know of anyone who would be interested in joining send them to a meeting.  They are held the last Wednesday of the month at 7pm in the VFW Hall located on the corner of Cole Road and Route 7.

Keep an eye out for the annual Super Bowl Sunday Chicken BBQ to be held again this year.  Last year it was a sold out event…hoping for the same this year!

New Patrol Post for Check Marks Site?

What do you think?  I would like to hear what Duanesburg residents think about the County plan to put a patrol substation on the corner of 7 and 20.  The town had planned a Veteran’s Memorial for that site once it was cleaned up.  Comment freely!!

Historical Society to Publish New Book

“The newest book by the Duanesburg Historical Society is a collection of personal memories and historical essays on life in the community of Duanesburg and the surrounding areas.  It contains both poignant personal memories of family and home, and insightful historical essays on the people, places, and businesses of our hometown.”

The book titled Remembering the Town of Duanesburg will be available at the end of September.   Please contact the Historical Society for more information.

County Farm to Hold Hazardous Waste Collection

Saturday, August 15 Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection
8:00 a.m. – Noon Schenectady County Farm, Hetcheltown Road.
Schenectady County residents with a valid County Farm Permit.
Farm Permits can be purchased at the County Farm for $20.
Pre-registration is required by calling 1-800-494-CARE (2273).

Park Program in Full Swing

Take the time to join us at the Van Patten Mill Park Summer Program.  The program runs the rest of this week and for the next two weeks Monday through Friday 9am to noon.

The new Park Director  Vanessa Baker and her enthusiastic staff have planned some wonderful daily activities including Western Day, tie dieing t-shirts, a treasure hunt and recycling crafts to name a few. Sponsored by the town- all the activities are free for kids ages 5-12.
